Botanical Chemist

Health Wright Products is a privately held Contract Manufacturer of Nutritional Supplements that is seeking a Botanical Chemist to join our expanding organization. JOB SUMMARY

Perform phytochemical analysis utilizing approved methods on nutraceutical products of botanical origin. This will include microscopy applications for crude plant materials and powdered samples as well as testing for specific chemical markers using appropriate sample preparation and chemical analysis of solid and liquid matrices by HPLC, HPTLC, and GC. The ability to work independently and under minimal supervision, in a safe manner, is critical to this position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Properly document receipt of raw material and finished product samples for botanical identification and analysis.
  • Utilize approved methods to properly prepare samples for microscopic and chemical analysis on nutraceutical products of botanical origin.
  • Utilizing proper technique and approved methods, analyze for trace and constituent organic content of raw materials and finished products.
  • Perform Quality Control review to insure compliance to Quality Control specifications and standards.
  • Utilize instrument specific computer applications for phytochemical analysis.
  • Serve as a technical resource for organization regarding items of botanical origin.
  • To have an understanding and ability to run additional analyses as needed.
  • To support the QA/Lab Manager during the investigations for any non-conformances.
  • Able to provide training and guidance as necessary.
  • Perform Installation and Performance Qualifications on all instrumentation when necessary.
  • Order and inventory lab materials to maintain supplies.

Education/SKILL/EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

  • B.S. degree or more advanced in Herbal Sciences or equivalent required.
  • 2 years minimum experienced as a botanical chemist preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience with HPLC and TLC methods preferred.
  • Experience working in a cGMP environment preferred.
  • Technical writing skills
  • Familiar with Microsoft applications such as MS Office.
